The programs, presented by the Pushcart Players, will take place on consecutive Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Gallery Space, 1670 Irving St. Registration is available through Rahway’s CommunityPass system.
On Oct. 8, *A More Perfect Union* will use folk music, drama, humor and dance to introduce the people and events connected to the writing and signing of the United States Constitution. Rather than presenting the subject as a list of dates and documents, the production follows four representative characters — Benjamin, Rebecca, Luke and Abby — through key moments in the nation’s founding story. The format is designed to make a major chapter of American history approachable for young audiences while still offering parents and caregivers an engaging shared experience.
The following week, on Oct. 15, *Cuentos del Arbol*, or *Tree Tales*, will bring Spanish and Latin American folklore to the stage in a bilingual musical. Centered on a tree that has sheltered and nurtured generations of characters, the performance follows its caretaker, Arbolita, as she shares stories with a traveling storyteller. The bilingual format is intended to welcome children, parents and grandparents who speak Spanish, English or both, while connecting language learning with theatre and cultural heritage.
Together, the performances offer two different entry points into the arts: one through the nation’s civic history and one through stories rooted in Hispanic and Latin American traditions. Both are especially well suited to families looking for an early-evening cultural outing that combines entertainment with learning.
