Student Mural Celebrates Franklin School’s Diversity

A new multicultural mural at Franklin School celebrates the cultures and voices that make up its community, with a message at its center: “Different pieces build our Franklin community.”

The project began as a poster contest during the 2025–2026 school year through the school’s Multilingual Student Ambassador Team. Following a vote by staff and students, Estefani Aranda, Alexia Sanchez Lopez, Alexza Soriano Martinez and Aby Pinzon Castillo created the winning design.

The school community also voted on the flags to include. Art teacher Priscilla Cancel brought the students’ vision to life in the school’s first-floor hallway.

Now seventh graders at Rahway Academy, the student designers were invited back for the October 7 unveiling, where they signed the mural and received awards.

The Multilingual Student Ambassador Team is led by Lindsey Lerner Barrett, Diana Arboleda and Amy Soriano. The finished mural honors student creativity, cultural pride and a sense of belonging.
